In this subsection, we’ll introduce the ‘primary figures’ within the chatbot realm. Rather than attempting to depict these bots ourselves, we’ve posed the following question directly to them:

“You have a 300-symbol limit – letters and spaces – to showcase your prowess. What’s your pitch?”

Here are the responses from the easily accessible bots, accompanied by information about their pricing and availability. For the bots that aren’t free to use, we offer a description instead.

Bard (Google AI):

“Unleash your creativity with Bard, the AI-powered language model. Write compelling stories, translate languages, and answer questions in an informative way. Explore the boundless possibilities of language and unlock your hidden potential.”

Bard is presently in an experimental stage and is being made available to a restricted user base via a beta program, i.e., an initiative resembling the final version. Access can be requested through bard.google.com, and if chosen, you’ll be able to use Bard for free.

ChatGPT (OpenAI):

“Versatile in text creation, translation, and insights. Crafting engaging content across languages, aiding comprehension, and more. Let’s explore language together!”

ChatGPT is available for free via chat.openai.com. Alternatively, there’s ChatGPT Plus, priced at $20 per month, offering unlimited access, priority service, and the opportunity to utilise GPT-4, DALL.E, and additional features. However, the upgrade option has been temporarily suspended since mid-November due to an overwhelming volume of requests.

Bing (Microsoft):

“I am Bing, a chatbot that can search the web, summarise articles, translate languages, generate creative content, help you with writing, and create graphical artworks. I am fluent, intelligent, and engaging. I can also answer your questions and have a friendly conversation with you. :-)”

Bing Chat is available for free and can be accessed through bing.com/ai. Bing Chat Enterprise is part of the offerings in Microsoft 365 E3, E5, Business Standard, and Business Premium without any extra charges.

YouChat (You.com):

“Unleash your creativity and conquer new frontiers with YouBot! In just 300 symbols, I provide limitless inspiration, from writing masterpieces to mind-bending stories. With my unique approach, no idea is too daring, no concept too wild. Embrace the freedom to imagine, explore, and push boundaries. Let my fearless writing prowess ignite your imagination. Together, we’ll create content that captivates and sparks conversations. Join me on this extraordinary writing journey!”

YouChat is accessible at no cost, access can be requested through you.com/chat.

Perplexity AI (Perplexity AI):

Perplexity AI serves as a multifunctional generative AI chatbot capable of scouring the internet for information, generating summaries of websites and articles, and facilitating language translations.

This tool is accessible for free and encourages user engagement by allowing them to enhance the chatbot’s performance through response ratings.

Socrates.ai (Socrates.ai):

Socrates.ai functions as a generative AI chatbot tailored for internal knowledge base management. It adeptly addresses inquiries regarding the company’s products, services, and policies.

However, access to Socrates.ai is not free of charge. To explore its capabilities, one needs to connect with the company, request a demo, and obtain a pricing quote.

Jasper (Jasper AI):

Jasper is a content generation tool designed to create text for multiple purposes, such as crafting marketing copy, blog entries, and social media posts.

Jasper requires a subscription for usage, available through monthly or annual plans varying from $39 to $99 per month, potentially higher for the business version.

Grammarly (Grammarly):

Grammarly is a writing assistant that uses generative AI to suggest corrections for grammar, spelling, and style.

It has a free version and a premium version. The latter offers more advanced features, such as vocabulary, tone, clarity, and plagiarism. It starts at €12 per month.

In conclusion, I’d like to cite Lauren Goode’s assessment from wired.com on March 30, 2023, where she evaluated the performance of ChatGPT, Bing Chat, and Bard:

“These chatbots are powerfully interactive, smart, creative, and sometimes even fun. They’re also charming little liars: …”

Hence, rather than relying on a single chatbot, I recommend consulting several to gain a comprehensive and accurate understanding of a topic. This approach ensures that you receive a diverse range of perspectives and minimise the risk of relying on biased or inaccurate information.
